About Me

Wa Hubbard

Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wa-Louisa Hubbard, and this November I am running for a seat on Dexter City Council.

I grew up in Dexter Township in the 80s and 90s, and I’ve witnessed our growth over the past 4 decades. I both respect where we are now and have a personal understanding of where we’ve been.

While I’ve lived in Washtenaw County for almost all of my life (I did a brief stint in Kalamazoo to attend K College), I moved to Dexter City proper in the summer of 2016. In the fall of 2016 I was appointed to the City’s Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee where I served as co-chair of the Paint Dexter Festival for 2 years and chair of the full Committee for about a year. I have a background in government communications as well as the arts. I currently work in the insurance industry.

Prior to my current employment as an operations manager, I worked in communications for a Michigan State Senator for 3 years. I have an undergraduate degree from Kalamazoo College and 18 credit hours of completed coursework toward a master’s in public administration from Eastern Michigan University.

In my free time, you can find me on the Huron River in my kayak, and it’s possible that even if you don’t know me, you’ve seen me and Hannah the Doggo on one of our daily walks around town. Oh and fun fact! My first job was at the Dexter Dairy Queen–best first job ever making ice cream and working with friends.

I am a creative thinker and a practical leader who would be honored to apply these skills on Dexter City Council. If elected, I will approach decision-making with facts and the ultimate goal of benefiting the greatest number of city residents possible. Being elected means acting on behalf of those who you represent, not on behalf of yourself or any personal agendas. This is something I take very seriously.

With that in mind, 2020 is strange, so I won’t be able to go door-to-door or mingle at community events to chat with you all. I still want AND need to hear from you. Please message me here (or at wafordexter@gmail.com) as often as you want, and I will respond as quickly as I can. I look forward to getting to know as many of you as possible!
